Why this exists

Documenting the undocumented

ServiceNow ships thousands of system properties, yet many of them only exist as a record with a one-line description, or are mentioned once in a long product guide. When you need to know what a property does, you end up digging through instances, PDFs and community threads. This project does that digging once, writes it down in plain language and keeps it in one place.

One page per property

Every property gets its own page with the default value, type, application, the out-of-the-box description and a plain-language explanation of what it changes.

Grounded in sources

Pages quote the passages of the official ServiceNow documentation where the property appears and link to them, so you can check the details yourself.

Kept up to date

The reference grows as new releases and documentation appear. Corrections and missing properties from the community are added along the way.

Related settings linked

Property pages link to related properties, so you can follow a setting to the ones that change the same behavior.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about ServiceNow system properties

System properties (records in the sys_properties table) are configuration switches that change how a ServiceNow instance behaves without changing code. They control things like date formats, session timeouts, email processing, security checks, logging and UI behavior.
ServiceNow ships thousands of properties, but only a part of them have a page in the official documentation. Many exist only as a record with a one-line description, or are mentioned briefly inside a long product guide. sysproperties.do collects that scattered information into one page per property.
No. sysproperties.do is an independent reference and is not affiliated with ServiceNow. Each page shows the out-of-the-box property record and links to the official documentation where the property is mentioned, so you can verify the details yourself.
Each page starts from the out-of-the-box property record (name, type, default value, application and description) and adds excerpts from the official ServiceNow documentation that mention the property. Pages are refreshed and new properties are added as new releases and documentation become available.
Check the default value and what it means, which area of the platform the property affects, and which related properties work together with it. Test the change in a sub-production instance first, because some properties have instance-wide effects.
Yes. Search by the full or partial name, such as glide.email, or by a topic such as approvals, session, logging or knowledge to find the relevant properties.
Yes, please do. If you know how a property behaves, spot a mistake or miss a property, send a short note through the contact page. Corrections from practitioners make the reference better for everyone.
